Cinema Strange interview in Hannover [by Vitaliy 'Stranger' Fedun]

Stranger: How did you like the performance today in Hannover? Lucas: It was great and we liked it, even so we are very tired, last night we slept just three hours. Stranger: So what did your name of band come from ? Lucas: Actually we weren''t going to make up smth. really outrageous. We just like old-fashion movies...You know like old movies of 20ties..They are pretty strange but you can always find smth. for youself there. An old german movies of that period are really great... Stranger: Like Metropolis ? Lucas: Yea, exactly...Some kind of. Stranger: Where do you live :-) ? Lucas: Nearby Los-Angeles... Stranger: Who writes the lyric for song ? Allan: Lucas writes all lyrics. We create the melody then try to play it on the piano or guitars. And after that we write words.. Stranger: I think then i will ask a usual question : where do you get those words for your song ? Lucas [smiles]: In dictionary...;-)
Lucas: Possibly sort of... Allan : You know all our song they are like stories we like to express all we have in our souls the way we perform songs. Each story is particular. We never try to put out some song if we don''t feel like doing it. We like tell people the stories.... Stranger: Uhu...And then all other memebers add their instruments ? Lucas: huh ? Stranger: I mean when Lucas finishes to write the lyric then other members start to arrange it ? Lucas: Yes, then all add his own vision of this song. And i think we are like the one. Each of us have something strange inside of him and we try to express it with our songs... Stranger: You know that your voice is often compared to Banshee's voice ? [ citating some reviews ] Lucas: Hmmm..;-) That''s really nice to be compared with other bands, esspecially with such bands like Banshees.. Stranger: You play death rock, it's a division of gothic, will you carry on to play in this style in future or you will change it? Lucas: We don't want to change. Mostly in the rock music artist makes one step, then another and then came back to the first step, but we want to go on and never look back.. Stranger: If you would be asked wich kind of music you hate what would you answer ? Allan: Mmm..You mean which music Cinema Strange will never play ? That's country music, i hate rap. hip-hop, heavy music... Stranger: When did you get started with music ? Lucas: Playing music ? I think at about 15...We started in high school... Lucas: Are there in Ukraine or in Russia , in Kiew or in Moscow people who listen to Cinema Strange ? Stranger: Yes..We have some. I know in Ukraine by now only one strong fan of yours for sure- that's member of www.gothic.com.ua - Tyrant..I think he likes you really much...He also likes Human Drama and just got in interview with John Indovina... Allan: John Indovina ? We have been performing with Human Drama 3 times.... Stranger: Do you like the music of Human Drama ? Lucas: We like old albums of him...That's was really good stuff.. Stranger: But how could you perform on the same stage with band like Human Drama ? i mean you play in a really different music style... Lucas: You know there is all mixed up in gothic scene in Los Angeles - dark wave, gothic, bat cave, death rock, electro.... Stranger: Uhu...Do you like electronic gothic ? Lucas: No we don't..Cause we like emotional music - but electronic is steril and emotionless so we don't like it.... Stranger: As far as i know you are signed now to the Trisol label, don''t you ? Lucas: Yes, we do. We have to put out 3 more albums on Trisol. Stranger: Why aren't you signed to US label ? Lucas [smiles] : That's a long story...Possibly they are not interested in death rock like we do.... But we are pretty satisfied with Trisol. Stranger: Which venue in Erope would you name as a best to perform on ? Lucas: I think Berlin.. Allan: Possibly Bratislava... Stranger: Which band was a support for you in Bratislava ? Likely Last Days of Jesus ? They are pretty famous gothic band from Slovakia... Lucas: Yes, the support band was Last Days of Jesus and we liked them very much. I think we will meet them again of Wave Gotik Treffen... Stranger: There will be lots of interesting bands playing this year - such as Zeromancer, And One, Project Pitchfork....Ukrainian Gothic Portal participants also will be there and we will be really glad to see you performing.... Lucas: we will.. Stranger: Ok..Then a rather boring questions - which music did you grow up with ? Allan: Virgin Prunes, Xmail Deutschland, different punk and post-punk.... Stranger: Fields of the Nephilim ? Lucas: Yes,also.. Allan: No...they play too much metal...i don't like metal. Stranger: What do you think of the Sisters of Mercy ? Lucas: I like their earlier stuff.... Stranger: What do you think of Eldtritch's lattest attitude of "hating" goths and of rejecting a common sides with such subculture and music ? Allan: I think in 10 years we will do the same..;-)) Lucas: Mm.. I think that''s not right to reject a background he came from...
Lucas: An our own tour - yes...but not really. We have been to Europe last automn. And in Germany, in Bochus last September....We were invited to perform in a goth club.. Stranger: Which cities did you visit ? Lucas: Bratislava, Berlin, Munich, etc... Stranger: Do you know Ukraine ? Lucas: Not really...;-) Of course we know that there is country with that name... Stranger: Chernobyl [grin] ? Lucas: Yes, that a nuclear catasprophe..? Stranger: Yes... Lucas: We know it pretty well...We also like Skryabin.. Stranger: Skryabin ?? Lucas: yes, Skryabin and Rahmaninov...They play really original music...[as a joke shows the way the violion is played] Stranger: I see that tastes are quite unusual..You really have very gothic image, gothic make up, which is not always understandable by society. Is it difficult to look like that in the ordinary life? When i look at Allan i think of other question - whether it is easy to dress the way you do in USA ? Allan: That's no trouble about that...I used to be a manager in a record store. Lucas: Well, we always look like that, and we think when you do it always, people just get used and are not impressed... Stranger: That would be a trouble to have such a look in Ukraine i think...We still have not developed scene and people who don't separate image and way of thinking..People are very prejudiced. Our traditional question - what could you say to goths, your fans in Ukraine and Russia and to readers of www.gothic.com.ua ? Lucas: That's pretty difficult to say it shortly but - we wish you to listen to right music... Stranger: In the end i can say that possibly i understood why people like you so much...Cause to be honest when i was going to gig this everning - i didn't expect it to be any interesting..but i changed my mind. I think people like you so much cause you are honest, you are sincere on the stage. And when people hear your music then can feel it. And i still believe that if you want to feel the band''s music you should go to their concert first... Lucas: Thanks for that. we really appreciatte this.
